Koi Fish

The process starts with crumpled paper, in this case, an 18” x 23” sheet of Strathmore drawing paper. The lines follow the random patterns made by the crumpling of the paper, and inform the direction of the final piece.

The lines are transferred to canvas and finished in acrylic.

I don’t approach the piece with a concept, but instead allow the pattern to inspire me. These patterns inspired the koi fish, for me, which is the color scheme I finished the canvas in. You might see something different.
